Sections of grass are vital for any school to provide a space for children to run around on and stretch their legs when the weather is dry. Often though, schools may find some patches of grass are wasted spaces, particularly in the winter when it is wet and muddy. St Lukes Primary found this very thing and came to Playsound asking for some help with transforming a section of grassed land outside one of their classrooms.

They wanted some shelter with seating and planting as well as a trim trail that was accessible all year round. Our sales and design team came up with a plan that met these specifications and within their budget and before long work commenced.

A timber pergola with integral planter seating formed the main feature of the area. Its polycarbonate roofing provides shade and shelter, but is also provides light when needed. The integral planting maximises the space and can fit up to 60 children. A chalkboard and whiteboard gave a space so that teachers could use the space for outdoor classes.

Surrounding the canopy lays a trim trail with exciting elements such as a tyre traverse and hanging rope traverse which tests children’s physical skills. Timber fencing cordoned off this area from other areas and artificial grass means that the area can be used all year round. Further seating was added with a couple of circular picnic tables.
