We had previously worked with Brookvale Primary on a steel canopy area within a totally enclosed courtyard, so the school knew about the effective way that we operate. The area that required work on this stage of their external environment was what could only be described as a maze of logs that filled the area. These logs provided little play and educational value.

The main aim of the redevelopment of the area was to provide a space full of play equipment that could aid imaginative play and creativity whilst encouraging children to build on their physical and social skills.

The job was completed over the summer holidays of 2013 to minimise disruption to the school and give the children something to look forward to coming back to in the Autumn term.

The chosen design incorporated one of our timber Jungle Dens with a textured pathway surrounding it. The Jungle Den can be used as a social space but offers excitement by its climbing elements too. A custom made balcony was added to create a unique play space.

As the theme was to be natural, everything was kept to green HDPE and timber as much as possible. Play panels and musical instruments provide educational activities and sound, and a corner stage area with seating gives a theatrical backdrop. Artificial grass and wet pour provided the vast majority of the surfacing.

The finished playground offers children a fun and stimulating environment which helps teachers with their classes. Since the first canopy area we did for the school we have built a strong relationship with the school and provide a variety of services for their outdoor play area, from bi-annual inspections to repair jobs.
