St Benedicts Primary School in Netherton, Liverpool, came to Playsound to overhaul the reception and foundation stage area that had seen better days. Twisty tarmac paths lead the way through the existing area, and a pencil barricade took children to an old hexagonal gazebo and planting area. There was little to do with physical play, create or imaginative, so the brief was set to develop these educational targets.

Working with the school, we designed a new playground that incorporated a trim trail to encourage physical activities with artificial grass flooring to allow for all weather use. In what is otherwise a flat area, a bridge with crawl through tunnel was proposed and a brand new gazebo replaced the old one. At the back of the playground a new sensory and imaginative area was designed with a mud kitchen, bark area with bug boxes and a hanging board. An existing hexagonal tree seat was to be renovated with a new coat of paint.

St Benedicts loved the proposal and went ahead with using Playsound. After four weeks in which we handmade the new equipment, installation began. The project took two weeks in total with the minimum of fuss.

Once the new playground equipment was installed the affect it has had is outstanding. The area is at the front of the school so visitors are now greeted with an impressive landscaped area. An official opening day was held with parents, staff, children and members of the Archdioceses present, and it proved to be a proud moment for the school and Playsound.
