At the front of St Jude’s Catholic Primary School there was an area that was neglected, rundown and was in serious need of some TLC. St Jude’s got in touch with us here at Playsound to go through some ideas for a new garden design. Initially the space was filled with flagged areas and paved pathways, old benches and raised tree roots causing it to lack function and visual interest. To develop the area St Jude’s wanted more sense of community and a space for all the children at the school to enjoy and be together.

For the final design the area was enclosed with Timber Picket Fencing. An entrance arch was put in for a lovely welcome feature for children to access the garden through. A textured pathway, stepping stones and several benches were added to create visual interest, movement and practical elements within the design. A few features that the school asked for were seating and planting.  To incorporate this into the design, a circular planter was added to one corner for a place to sit around and socialise.  We installed one of our Hexagonal Tree Seats around one of the existing trees to again create a focal point straight ahead as you enter. Then finishing touches such as pebbles and rocks were added around the smaller tree towards in the back end of the garden, in the shape of rosemary beads to create a spiritual element.

The finalised garden was opened by the Bishop of Liverpool, Tom Williams upon completion. The space has had a fantastic response from all the children and parents. It was a great thing to see everyone getting involved and enjoying the new wonderful outdoor space. Now the area is light, bright and is filled with a range of great products and purpose.
