Fishwick Primary School is a small, friendly and welcoming school located in the heart of the Fishwick community in Preston, UK. FWPS came to us for a Free consultation visit to look at helping with the development of their current outdoor grassed areas. The aim of the project was to take out their existing equipment and install some new and challenging Trim Trail and Outdoor Gym items to help the children to better their motor, coordination skills and upper body strength.

Area 1- Trim Trail.

Within the existing grassed area there is a multi-play frame that the school wanted to keep and incorporate within the new scheme. Due to the space in front of the play frame being in unused, we thought it would make perfect sense to install something here. That way all of the equipment would be linked and can be used together. Both our sales and design team came up with a few designs that would work with the school’s needs and wants. After a play around with a variety of layouts and ideas – Here is the finished result. (See photos below). Items include, Zig Zag Beams, Tyre Traverse, 1.5m High A-Frame and a Log Bridge

All of these old and new items combined, create a wonderful challenging  yet enjoyable obstacle course that promotes balance, coordination and strength development all whilst having lots of fun too.

Area 2 – Outdoor Gym.

In addition to the trim trail, the school also wanted to install a bundle of Outdoor Gym Equipment pieces in another empty, unused patch of grass. With gym equipment, Children can participate together without having to compete, meaning every child can get involved. Outdoor exercise is proven to enhance fitness, stimulate emotional wellbeing, better learning. All while developing muscle strength, flexibility, balance and co-ordination.

The pieces that the school chose were the Arm & Pedal Bike, Double Health Walker, Sky Stepper and a Horse Rider. (Please get in touch if you’d like more information on Outdoor Gym.

To complete the space, Resin Bonded Surfacing was then laid underneath the exciting play frame, the 4 new trim trail pieces and Outdoor Gym equipment to make it accessible straight from the playground and suitable in all weathers. That way there is no more running across the grass when its wet and muddy…So a win- win really 😊
